Two Products for Easy Grow-At-Home
At Cape & Islands Mycology, we’re excited to support the growing movement towards legal psilocybin mushroom cultivation in Massachusetts. Whether you’re a seasoned grower or a curious beginner, our products are designed to help you succeed at home, no matter your growing technique or setup. In this post, we’ll explain how easy it is to grow your own psilocybin mushrooms with just two products: Sterilized Grain Bags and Pasteurized Substrate Bags.
Step 1: Grain Spawn - The Foundation of Your Grow
The first stage of growing mushrooms is creating grain spawn. Grain spawn is essentially a nutritious medium where mushroom spores or liquid culture can grow and develop into mycelium (the mushroom’s root-like structure). Our Sterilized Grain Bags with Injector Ports make this process simple. Here’s how it works:
-
Inoculation: Once you’ve sourced your spores or liquid culture, you can inject them directly into our pre-sterilized grain bags using the convenient injector port. The sterilization ensures that your grain is free of contaminants, giving your mycelium the best chance to thrive.
-
Incubation: After inoculating the grain, place the bags in a dark, warm area. Over the next 1-2 weeks, the spores will colonize the grain, spreading through it and creating a fully developed mycelial network.
Step 2: Fruiting Substrate - Where the Magic Happens
Once your grain is fully colonized, it’s time for the second stage: transferring the grain spawn to a fruiting substrate. Our Pasteurized Substrate Bags are formulated to provide the perfect environment for your mycelium to produce mushrooms.
-
Mixing: Open the sterilized grain bag and combine the colonized grain with the pasteurized substrate in a fruiting container, such as a monotub or grow bag. The substrate provides the nutrients and moisture necessary for fruiting.
-
Fruiting: Place the container in a space with indirect light and consistent humidity. Within a week or two, you’ll start to see the first signs of mushrooms pinning, and shortly after, you’ll be harvesting your very own psilocybin mushrooms!
